Our food

The food

Our food is all about seafood, served simply. We add a Mediterranean twist here and there and we love to play with flavours and marinades. Our style is rustic, no fine dining here. Its all about our IW crab and lobster, Bembridge prawns when in season (only March & October), smoked salmon, giant crevettes and big seafood platters. We cook to order and our café and kitchen is very small. We are predominantly a seafood kiosk with fresh IW crab and lobster. We do always have a couple of lovely veggie dishes on our menu and we offer many gluten free dishes. The award winning chef Emma and her team create fabulous food using local seafood. Emma also won the IW Masterchef and The Gurt Cook off competitions championing local produce.

Quick food

So sometimes you may be making a quick visit before heading off to the ferry and have only half an hour. If that is the case, we probably aren’t for you. We cook do to order and we are only a team of two in the kitchen. Great food takes time! So why not visit another time when you can sit and relax and enjoy the view and our food!

What to expect

We specialise in offering seafood platters and veggie treats during lunchtime. We serve lunch 12 till 3pm. Our food is prepared to order and our menu is small and succinct to keep our food fresh. We don’t fry and we don’t do burgers or bacon sandwiches! We just do what we do best and that is fresh seafood platters. We play with seasonings and marinades. We serve fresh local crab and lobster when we can get it and when the brave fishermen can source it. We use local produce wherever possible and local suppliers. We always believe in supporting local.

It's all about seafood

We offer fresh local seafood of crab and lobster alongside other favourites such as Scottish smoked salmon, giant Mediterranean crevetes, shell on prawns, tiger prawn mayo. Along with lots of fresh salads, herbs and marinades, all served with a fresh crusty roll. We specialise in seafood platters to eat in or pre order to take away. (We can offer delivery after café hours if pre-booked and pre-paid. Please call or text on 07832127737 to order May to September). We do run warm dishes on chilly days such as garlic crevettes or our homemade crab ramekin. We often have a French lobster bisque on the menu. Crab sandwiches we cannot serve currently as there is a shortage of crab. But our open smoked salmon is equally lovely!

Non seafood menu

Alongside our seafood, we will always have a small range of veggie treats and vegan options such as roasted vegetables, hummus and crumbled falafals, fresh local asparagus and minted cucumber ribbons or pan fried Halloumi in sweet chilli. There is always something fresh and light on offer.

Kids

For the little Beach Hutters we offer a picnic box style lunch with a sandwich, crisps, colouring book, bag of sweets and a carton of drink.

Fancy a cuppa or an ice Cream

Coming just for a tea or coffee? Not a problem we stock Twinnings tea and Lavazza coffee from a rather whizzy Barista coffee machine. On busy lunchtimes we do have to prioritise our seating for those having lunch. But we are more than happy to offer our drinks as a takeaway.

Bar

You are welcome to join us for drinks from our lovely wine, beer and cocktails menu. Maybe have a gin or a cheeky glass of something chilled. We have a lovely selection.

Ice cream & lollies

We stock a lovely range of Isle of Wight ice creams and we have Rex's Doggy ice cream for our four legged chums! All made here on the Isle of Wight

Payment

We take all cards except AMEX. We also don't take cheques. We do ask payment be made by card where possibe. We don’t carry cash on the premises due to security. As we all know, our banks are closing with alarming speed making it hard to pay in and take out cash during our working hours.

Prices

It can’t be avoided unfortunately, we all know food and drink is going up. We will do our best to offer good value. We will learn to box a bit clever this year, but some things have to go up. We won’t be offering crab sandwiches this season due to a shortage of crab and the price it is for us to buy in.
